Book review: Pow Pow Pig

Pow Pow Pig: An Unexpected Hero by Anh Do and Peter Cheong

REVIEWED BY REUBEN, 8, WA

Pow Pow Pig: An Unexpected Hero by Anh Do, illustrated by Peter Cheong, Allen and Unwin, ISBN 9781760526405

The publisher provided a review copy of this book.

Pow Pow Pig is about a pig named Piccolo who joins an organisation called CHOC because he wants to help animals in need, but he ends up always on kitchen duty …

My favourite character is Piccolo. Books about pigs always seem like funny books. This is a hilarious book. I even love the cover. The size of the title makes me laugh. The illustrations suit the story and are also hilarious. There are also stickers inside, at the back of the book.

Pow Pow Pig is similar to the Captain Underpants books and The Bad Guys series. Kids who like pigs, funny books, exciting books and novels (there are nine chapters in this book) will love this too.

I think 7 to 10-year-olds would enjoy this book most. Kids older than 10 would still enjoy it though, and kids who are younger than 7 would enjoy it if someone reads it to them.

I give it 5 out of 5 stars!

Book review: The Treehouse Joke Book 2

REVIEWED BY REUBEN, 7, WA

Book cover: The Treehouse Joke Book 2 by Andy Griffiths and Terry Denton

The Treehouse Joke Book 2 by Andy Griffiths & Terry Denton, Pan Macmillan Australia, ISBN 9781760980511

The publisher provided a review copy of this book.

This book is hilarious. My favourite thing about the book was being able to tell jokes to people around me.  I love telling these jokes to my friend next door because he always laughs.

The pictures in the book are hilarious – they match the art style so well. Some of the pictures are both funny and weird – like an elephant on a scooter being chased by a mouse!

Take a sneak peek inside the book!

Book review: Mama Ocean

Mama Ocean by Jane Jolly and Sally HeinrichREVIEWED BY REUBEN, 7, WA

Mama Ocean by Jane Jolly, illustrated by Sally Heinrich, MidnightSun Publishing, ISBN 9781925227659

The publisher provided a review copy of this picture book.

This book is about sea creatures helping Mama Ocean when she was feeling sick. Mama Ocean felt sad because she was full of rubbish. What I loved best about this book was the front cover – because I really liked the picture. I also liked the pinks and oranges in the illustrations, lots of wavy curly bits through the illustrations.
This story made me feel happy and sad. The mountain of junk made me sad, the beginning and end made me happy.
The kids in my class would like this book because of the illustrations.

Reuben reviewed his own copy of this book.

Charlie finds a hole and puts it in his pocket and he puts it in his backpack, but everything falls out. So he goes to the shops to see who wants a hole, but they just don’t.

I love it. I’ve read it a lot. It’s funny.
