Young writers in action: A Corona virus poem

The Terrible, Horrifying Pandemic of 2020
(commonly known as the Corona Virus)
by Anishka, 9, QLD

Leaves litter the ground
Untouched for many days
Weeks pass without a sound
Or talk of any sort.

The once busy streets
Are devoured by silence
Waiting for day to cease
Before they fill with lights.

Scurrying paws echo
When animals take what is theirs
Ants take refuge down below
Monkeys find trees suitable.

No smoke to get rid of
No rubbish in sight
Everyone wearing gloves
Everyday day to night

Together we will conquer
The thing that we fear
To restore the peace
Of the world.

Young Writers in Action: Pure Beauty

PURE BEAUTY
by Sonia, 9, California, USA

Beauty is on the inside
Not on the outside

You can have pimples and warts
But still be the winner of hearts

Beauty is kindness and strength
Not fancy clothes and affluence

You can have perfect hair and be rich
But if you are vain and unkind
Your true beauty still has a glitch

An imperfect face with a kind wit
Still makes your beauty a perfect hit

That is the possession of pure, true beauty

Young Writers in Action: Love

a campfire

LOVE
by Sonia, 9, California USA

Love is the fire inside you that never runs out of wood,
You can never put the fire out, although some wish they could.

Love is the river inside you that never dries up,
It will never stop flowing, even if you put it in a cup.

Love is the flower that never wilts,
Even if someone destroys the ground on which it is built.

Love is the tree that will never fall down,
Even if someone saws it to build a town.

Love is the thing that speaks to the depths of our soul and helps us to know,
Where the sad times are, when we need it the most.

Young writers in action: Beach pollution

BEACH POLLUTION
Anishka, 7, QLD

The beach I used to go,
Always showed me fantastic show.
The fishes splashed, the dolphins dashed,
Nature is always at its best.
The days passed,
Now, it has all gone and faded.
No more ice-cream,
Not even a cone,
No more fishes,
Not even a dolphin.
Not anything to be seen,
Not anything to be so keen.
I think, we changed sea’s face,
And made this beach a mess.
It is now full of sea weed,
I picked it all for a good deed.

Young writers in action: All about people

ALL ABOUT PEOPLE
by Siddh, 6, QLD

There are lots of people in this world,
But everyone is still the same,
Some people could blame each other,
And others might do the same.

When it’s dark and late in the night and people in their beds,
some people could already be asleep and others would be awake.

So, there are lots of people in this world
And people might look different
But every single one of our souls
Is built exactly the same!

SUCCEED
by Anishka, 7, QLD

A single seed is all we need to succeed.
I believe, I can walk.
I believe, I can talk.
I believe, I can fly.
I believe, I can cry.
When I say so,
I mean let go your feelings and just try,
That’s all you can do.

Young Writers in Action: Summer

Summer
by Tanishkaa, 8, NSW

Travelling to different beaches
Eating ice cream and peaches
Renting a holiday house
Finding a new pet mouse
Exploring an enormous cave
Surfing on the largest wave
Flying the most colourful kite
Chasing a lorikeet in its flight
The endless joys of summer
Certainly break the winter slumber.

Young Writers in Action: Spring

SPRING
By Anishka, 6, QLD

Spring:
Flowers blooming, birds singing,
What season is that? Spring!
Lives are getting born, the bees are buzzing,
What season is that? Spring!
Spring is beautiful and cheerful,
Spring is the king of all the seasons.
